Accident & Sickness Program (Except Quebec)

This FSRA-approved course prepares you to become a licensed Accident & Sickness (A&S) insurance agent in Canada. Designed for flexibility, it can be completed fully online, at your own pace.

Course Length: Approximately 40 hours.

Format: Self-paced online access, with options to join live webinars.

Practice Exams: Unlimited, with instant feedback.

Certification Exams: Two modules (A&S and Ethics), each with up to four attempts. Passing grade: 60%.

Enrollment Period: 12 months of access from registration.

Language: English.

Prerequisites for the HLLQP Online Course

The A&S Online Course is open to anyone. However, we recommend that you have at least a high school education and equivalent English or French language and math skills to succeed in the course.

Prerequisites for Licensing in Ontario

After completing the Accident & Sickness (A&S) insurance course and passing both certification exams, you must meet the following licensing requirements set by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) to become a licensed life insurance agent:

  • Be sponsored by a licensed insurer for your first two years as an agent.
  • Complete the online Insurance Agent application through Licensing Link and pay the required fee.
  • Conduct business only under the name in which you are licensed, and act in good faith as a life insurance agent.
  • Not engage in any business or occupation that could compromise your integrity, independence, or competence.
  • Be of good character and reputation.
  • Be a suitable person to receive a licence and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Successfully complete a FSRA-approved A&S course and pass the certification exams.
  • Provide FSRA with a valid Ontario mailing address.
  • Maintain appropriate Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance coverage.

About the Certification Exams

To earn your A&S certification, you must pass TWO separate online exams—one for each core module of the course. These exams are required before you’re eligible to write the provincial licensing exam.

Exam Format: Online, proctored exams with webcam and microphone required.

Number of Exams: 2 exams covering:

  1.  Ethics and Professional Practice
  2. Accident and Sickness

Question Type: Multiple choice

Time Limit: 75 minutes for A&S, 60 minutes for Ethics

Number of Questions:
– Accident and Sickness: 35 questions each
– Ethics and Professional Practice: 25 questions

Passing Grade: 60% per module

Everyone was friendly and helped me if I had any concerns. Only problem is that after I completed the course, I was accused of cheating. I was studying every day for each module, so it was very disrespectful to tell me that I was cheating

No. The full HLLQP course includes four tested modules: Life Insurance, Accident & Sickness, Segregated Funds and Annuities, and Ethics and Professional Practice. A&S Only is a smaller course option focused only on the Accident & Sickness licensing requirement.

Yes. If you complete A&S Only and later decide you want to complete the full HLLQP Life Insurance licence pathway, you can take REMIC’s HLLQP Top-Up course. The Top-Up course includes the remaining Life Insurance and Segregated Funds modules.
