Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

REMIC uses artificial intelligence ("AI") technologies to improve our services, enhance the learning experience, and operate our platform more efficiently. We are committed to using AI responsibly, transparently, and in a manner consistent with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This section explains how and when we use AI, and the safeguards we apply to protect your information.

How We Use AI

We currently use AI in the following ways:

  • Aggregate and Non-Identifiable Analysis. We use AI to analyze aggregated, de-identified data—such as overall course performance trends, usage patterns, and content effectiveness. This information cannot reasonably be used to identify any individual student and helps us improve our courses and services.
  • Support with User Queries. We may use AI to help respond to questions relating to course materials and subject matter, so that we can provide faster, more consistent, and more helpful responses to learners.

Our Commitments Regarding Your Personal Information

When using AI, we adhere to the following principles:

  • No Use of Personal Student Data Without Consent. AI tools do not access or process your identifiable personal information unless you have expressly consented to such use. Where consent is given, it is limited to the specific purpose for which it was obtained, and you may withdraw it at any time.
  • Your Submissions Are Never Used to Train AI. Content you submit through our platform—including assignments, exam responses, questions, and other student-submitted materials—is never used to train, fine-tune, or develop AI models, whether ours or those of any third party.
  • Human Oversight. AI is used to assist and augment our services, not to replace human judgment. We do not rely solely on automated processing to make decisions that have a significant effect on you, such as final grading, certification, or eligibility outcomes, without human involvement.
  • Accuracy and Limitations. While we strive to ensure AI-assisted responses are helpful and accurate, AI-generated information may occasionally be incomplete or incorrect. AI-assisted answers are provided for convenience and should not be treated as a substitute for official course materials, professional advice, or guidance from our instructors and staff.

Third-Party AI Providers

Some of our AI features are powered by trusted third-party service providers. Where we share information with these providers, we take steps to ensure it is handled securely and only for the purposes we authorize. We require these providers to maintain appropriate safeguards and to refrain from using any information we provide to independently train or improve their own models, except as necessary to deliver the service to us. Some providers may process data outside of Canada, in which case the information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

Your Rights and Choices

You may contact us at any time to ask how AI is being used in connection with your account, to request access to or correction of your personal information, or to withdraw any consent you have previously provided for AI-related processing. We will respond in accordance with applicable privacy laws. Withdrawing consent will not affect any processing carried out before the withdrawal, and may limit certain features of our services.

Changes to Our Use of AI

As AI technologies evolve, our use of them may change. We will update this section to reflect any material changes, and where required by law, we will obtain your consent before using your personal information for any new AI-related purpose.
