Passing the exam is step one. Getting hired is step two.

You can't get licensed in Ontario until a brokerage hires you. FSRA requires it, and it stops more people than the exam does.

We surveyed 880 of our graduates. Of those who finished the course and never got licensed, four in ten said they couldn't find a brokerage that would take them on.

Popular FAQs

Yes. REMIC issues a T2202 (Tuition and Enrolment Certificate) to students who paid more than $100 in eligible tuition fees for qualifying courses in a calendar year.

Eligible tuition fees can be claimed as a tuition tax credit on your federal tax return using your T2202. You may also qualify for the Canada Training Credit (CTC), which can refund up to half of eligible fees depending on your available CTC balance. For questions about your own return, contact the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or a tax professional.

T2202 forms for the previous calendar year are available by the end of February. In line with CRA rules, they are issued only when eligible tuition fees total more than $100. Materials and administrative fees are not eligible.

You have 3 hours to complete the exam.

The final exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions, many based on case studies that are designed to test your knowledge and understanding of the course material as required by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA).

You can write the final exam fully online, or in person at our head office training facility in North York (Sheppard Ave. East and Victoria Park). Schedule your exam through the student portal.

If you write in person at our North York office, your final mark is available online the same day. If you write online, your results are typically available within 3 business days.

Once you have been notified that you have passed the course, log in to the online course and complete our feedback survey. You can then print your certificate of completion and save it electronically.

For an in-person exam, bring government-issued photo ID (a driver’s licence or valid passport), one additional piece of valid identification, a pen or pencil, and a calculator. No other aids are allowed during the exam.

REMIC gives you access to an Exam Review Report that details the sections and topics from the textbook that you missed. If you fail the exam, you may request to review it at a time convenient to both you and REMIC. Please refer to our Policies and Procedures Manual for additional information.

If you fail the exam, you can arrange a rewrite at the next available exam date. If you fail the rewrite, you must re-enrol in the course and pay the full tuition. This is an FSRA requirement.

Yes, the REMIC Mortgage Agent Course (RMAC) is approved by FSRA and meets the educational requirements to obtain a mortgage agent licence in Ontario.

A broker and an agent both ‘broker’ mortgages, however a broker may also hire agents and be the principal broker of a brokerage (equivalent to the Chief Compliance Officer). A broker does not necessarily earn more on a mortgage transaction than an agent. To upgrade to a broker licence, you must have been a licensed Level 2 agent for at least two years, pass the broker course, and be approved by FSRA.

Once you have passed the course, you can create a free account in the REMIC Job Bank. The Job Bank lets you view job postings from brokerages across Ontario, and brokerages can see your resume and cover letter (if you include them) and contact you directly to set up an interview. REMIC also provides information and resources to help you through the interview process, because understanding the procedures and asking the right questions are vital when choosing a brokerage to join as a mortgage agent. This is a completely free service for all REMIC RMAC students.
