Data Storage
REMIC stores your personal information using secure data storage facilities. Some of these facilities, or the third-party service providers we rely on, may be located outside of Canada. As a result, your information may be stored on or transmitted to servers in other jurisdictions and may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by courts, law enforcement, or other government authorities. REMIC requires that appropriate safeguards be in place to protect it, and we handle your personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). If you have questions about where your information is stored or the safeguards we apply, you may contact us at privacy@remic.ca.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
REMIC uses artificial intelligence ("AI") technologies to improve our services, enhance the learning experience, and operate our platform more efficiently. We are committed to using AI responsibly, transparently, and in a manner consistent with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This section explains how and when we use AI, and the safeguards we apply to protect your information.
How We Use AI
We currently use AI in the following ways:
- Aggregate and Non-Identifiable Analysis. We use AI to analyze aggregated, de-identified data, such as overall course performance trends, usage patterns, and content effectiveness. This information cannot reasonably be used to identify any individual student and helps us improve our courses and services.
- Support with User Queries. We may use AI to help respond to questions relating to course materials and subject matter, so that we can provide faster, more consistent, and more helpful responses to learners.
Our Commitments Regarding Your Personal Information
When using AI, we adhere to the following principles:
- No Use of Personal Student Data Without Consent. AI tools do not access or process your identifiable personal information unless you have expressly consented to such use. Where consent is given, it is limited to the specific purpose for which it was obtained, and you may withdraw it at any time.
- Your Submissions Are Never Used to Train AI. Content you submit through our platform, including assignments, exam responses, questions, and other student-submitted materials, is never used to train, fine-tune, or develop AI models, whether ours or those of any third party.
- Human Oversight. AI is used to assist and augment our services, not to replace human judgment. We do not rely solely on automated processing to make decisions that have a significant effect on you, such as final grading, certification, or eligibility outcomes, without human involvement.
- Accuracy and Limitations. While we strive to ensure AI-assisted responses are helpful and accurate, AI-generated information may occasionally be incomplete or incorrect. AI-assisted answers are provided for convenience and should not be treated as a substitute for official course materials, professional advice, or guidance from our instructors and staff.
Third-Party AI Providers
Some of our AI features are powered by trusted third-party service providers. Where we share information with these providers, we take steps to ensure it is handled securely and only for the purposes we authorize. We require these providers to maintain appropriate safeguards and to refrain from using any information we provide to independently train or improve their own models, except as necessary to deliver the service to us. Some providers may process data outside of Canada, in which case the information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
Your Rights and Choices
You may contact us at any time to ask how AI is being used in connection with your account, to request access to or correction of your personal information, or to withdraw any consent you have previously provided for AI-related processing. We will respond in accordance with applicable privacy laws. Withdrawing consent will not affect any processing carried out before the withdrawal, and may limit certain features of our services.
Changes to Our Use of AI
As AI technologies evolve, our use of them may change. We will update this section to reflect any material changes, and where required by law, we will obtain your consent before using your personal information for any new AI-related purpose.
Text Messaging (SMS)
REMIC may communicate with students and prospective students by text message. This section explains what we collect, how we obtain your consent, what we send, and how you can stop receiving messages at any time. Our text messaging practices are governed by our SMS Terms and by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What We Collect
When you provide a mobile number to REMIC, we collect the number itself along with a record of your consent, including the date, time, and the form or page where the consent was given. We also retain delivery records, such as whether a message was sent, delivered, or replied to.
How We Obtain Your Consent
We obtain express consent before sending marketing text messages. Consent is collected through an unchecked box at checkout, on webinar and clinic registration forms, on lead and enquiry forms, and through the messaging preference in your student account. Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of purchasing a course or of enrolling in any REMIC program.
The Two Types of Messages We Send
REMIC treats these separately, and you may opt out of the second without losing the first:
- Service Messages. Messages tied to a transaction or an account you already hold. These include order and payment confirmations, course access details, live clinic reminders and joining links, exam booking confirmations, and responses to a support request you initiated.
- Marketing Messages. Messages about courses, programs, promotions, licensing deadlines, and continuing education deadlines. These are sent only where you have given express consent, or where CASL permits a communication arising from an existing business relationship.
Frequency, Rates, and Opting Out
- Message frequency varies depending on the program you are enrolled in and the messages you have opted into.
- Message and data rates may apply. These are charged by your mobile carrier, not by REMIC.
- Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving further marketing texts. Reply HELP for assistance, or contact us at support@remic.ca.
- Opting out of marketing messages does not stop service messages relating to a course you have purchased. To stop those as well, contact us directly.
- Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Who We Share It With
REMIC does not sell, rent, or trade mobile numbers. We do not share mobile numbers or SMS consent records with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Numbers are shared only with the messaging service providers we use to deliver messages on our behalf, and only for that purpose. Those providers are bound by agreement to maintain appropriate safeguards and to use the information only as we authorize. Some providers may process data outside of Canada, in which case the information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, as described under Data Storage above.
How Long We Keep It
We retain mobile numbers and consent records for as long as your consent remains in effect, and afterward for the period required to demonstrate compliance with CASL. Where you withdraw consent, we retain a record of the withdrawal so that we can honour it.
Your Rights and Choices
You may withdraw your consent to text messaging at any time by replying STOP, by changing the messaging preference in your student account, or by contacting us at privacy@remic.ca. You may also ask us what mobile number we hold for you, correct it, or request its deletion. Withdrawing consent will not affect messages sent before the withdrawal.
